as i complain everyday about my pledge process for this professional pharm frat, i still cannot stop complaining.

as i have complained in the previous blog, i was hesitant about D&B night- the active dinner-- where us as pledges had to raise enough money to throw them a nice dinner. the dinner actually turned out really nicely! granted, the food was not so terribly exciting-- well, cuz our budge was limited and we were at D&B and not TRU. there were two options- chicken or pasta and veggies for the vegetarians, and salad as appetizers. we had a little back section reserved with 5 long tables. we were to bring the active brothers each course and get alkies from the bar as needed. then the dinner entertainment involved a scavenger hunt. a scavenger hunt not in the sense of finding objects, but in the sense that we had a list of intersting "fun facts" and they had to identify which fun fact belongs to whom. and we had a page of baby photos of pledges for them to identify as well. hee heee.

some of the actives were like, oh my god, these questions are hard!!! SEE?? now you know how freakin' hard it can be for each of us to learn each of the freakin' ~50 active brothers! i think it is only fair that they should also learn as much about the pledges as we have to learn about them!!!! hahahha... some of the questions were quite funny: "im afraid of squirrels and mice," "im allergic to bananas," "i did a fashion show with neiman marcus," "i took my first steps in the american embassy in libya," "i met jamie blyth from the bachelorette".... etc. as for the baby pictures, it is freakin' annoying that EVERYONE knows right away who i was. i swear, my face did not change since the day i was born! :(

before the dinner started, i was like, ugh, this will be long and boring. so i had a vanilla and coke, and then a chocolate martini. then i felt a lil better. some girl was already drunk. hahaha. then someone else bought me a lava flow- which is like a strawberry swirl pina colada sorta thing. i dont know if its the wonders of alcohol or what, the dinner actually turned out pretty nice!! ;) of course, afterwards, all i wanted to do was go home and relax instead of hanging out with them for the losing game, so i left with some other peeps. :)

yesterday we had one of the most stressful labs i've had in a long time. back in college, our 5 hr org chem labs were pretty torturous. our histology and dissection labs for mammalian bio were hard and long but they were fun. the lab we had yesterday involved learning to use the torsion balance (a device you use to measure small scale pharmaceuticals for small scale compounding) and its sensitivity requirement, and learning the drops/mL of different liquids, and how accurately we can pippete to fill a teaspoon, soup spoon... etc. you know, really it was not hard at all, its just annoying and pain in the ass and no fun when the lab director kept saying to class, "this is a timed lab section, you have XX minutes left." it was so long i dont think anyone finished. towards the end we were making up answers for each other. blah! one may think, dont most pharmacies in stores or hospitals have a state of art electric balance now (heck, thats what i grew up with) so do you have to know how to use a torsion balance? well, apparently it is required by the IL state law that we learn so and the incentive is that "anywhere" we practice in "any condition" the torsion balance can ALWAYS be used. i guess that like doing math in the head when no calculators or papers/pencils are available. :p or writing letters when emails and blogs no longer exist. what would basia and i do then?
