thanks for basia's chief alcoholic drunk call last night! quite a highlight to my quiet saturday evening in the tropics of el houston. you guys must invite me out to drinking guinness next time! :) alright, or dont tell me that yall are going. it was nice to hear familiar voices, nevertheless. i think i was reading harry potter when the call arrived and after the call and after my brother's refusal to go out and watch a movie with me and after leaving messages to friends not home, i decided to put in my bro's dvd and watched 2 fast 2 furious.
yes, i know, how silly. at least it was only my first time watching it. i actually got bored due to the predictable plot twists and incorrigibly bad acting on paul walker's part. what happened to the pseudo hot asian gangster in the first movie!?
on the fast and furious side of business, i heard duff-man is turning metro!?!?!? ow ow! i can already imagine heads turning, women gasping, "that duff-man, he's so hot right now" (as adapted from zoolander)! giggle giggle.
today was a family day. we went to chinatown for dim sum. i enjoy dim sum in houston so much more (well, aside from that mom and dad would pay) because there are so many good choices of restaurants, each with many good choices of food. in chicago i only know of two big, well-publicized restaurants for dim sum and they are both mediocre! :( the smaller, pseudo dim sum cafes are terrible in that everything tastes like frozen food! how sad, and i am surprised by it too seeing that chicago is such diverse city with quite high asian population! the north chinatown (vietnamese town, really) on argyle is no better.
afterwards, we went to this plant store to buy fun asian greens for me and basia. these are some pretty exciting bamboos and money trees. i will see how long i can keep these apparently-resilient plants alive since i can kill things such as ivy... anywho, i am fascinated by this money tree creature. i like it not because of the money-inviting superstition associated with these trees but because of the intertwining roots and 5-leaf patterns. they are just so interesting looking! 8-)
tomorrow, or i guess today, monday, hopefully i can get together once again with carol and olivia. i bought this nice leather bound journal for olivia as a christmas/departure gift-- i hope she will like it!! as i said before, she's leaving for bolivia for an indefinite period of time. though shes for sure to return, i am still very sad cuz she, carol, i (and asli too though she is married with child and hasnt talked to me in... ages) went through many silly things in HS together. nostalgia...
oh yeah, and i *think* i am tentatively planning to return to chicago on tues 12/30?? suggestions? recommendations?
