ready, set, RUN!
hello, my friends. have not posted for a while, mainly due to the lack of exciting news... sigh...
this past weekend, calammy, badgering anu
, and i volunteered at hustle up the hancock. this hustling event was basically a race where runners got to run up flights of stairs in the hancock tower. you may think this is some weird sporting event, but really, running up the stairs continuously is a very good aerobic workout. it really works the gluts and the quads. the incline also increases the workout resistance, more efficiently than just running on flat road. we used to have to do it *all the time* in crew. the stairway in the hancock tower was quite spacious and the ventilation was fine too, much less torturous than our dorm stair running. :( it was my first time volunteering, and it was quite fun! when we got there, it looked like there was a surplus of volunteers as a lot of people were deemed "floaters" with no specific assignments. calammy got to look pretty behind the info table, directing hot and fit runners where to go. anu and i had to wait around for things to do. we got assigned to do the water station on the 76th floor.
unfortunately, when we got there, we realized that there were already 5 people at the station. one bitchy mid aged woman and a few teeny boppers probably related to her. man, bad combination: bitchy snooty woman and know-nothing-but-pretending-to-be-cool over-weight kids!! they were like, uh, we ran out of paper cups, you guys need to go get paper cups... blah blah... uh, going to ##floor doesnt help me, you guys need to go find someone in charge. we were like, um, why dont YOU do it if you know exactly what to do. the fat kids were like freakin' in the way of the runners too. um, when you offer water to the exhausted climbers, you dont stand in their face, you stand back and reach out as necessary.
anu and i got bored with the ignoramus. we decided to go find trash bags to pick up the litered paper cups on the steps. the elevator couldnt take us up to 95. so we had to take it to 94 and walk the last flight. of course, there was a photographer at the finish line. we were like, ahh, dont take pix of us, we were just volunteerssssss! ahhhhh! so anywho, we got bags, and started going up floor by floor from 80. we did 80-94; then like 50-80 again. there were a lot of paper cups thrown everywhere, so we felt productive. and boy, that was a lot of stairs we climbed. what a work out, considering such "excellent" we were in. it was fun, after that we came back down to first and hung out with calammy then we decided to call it a day.
after this event, we became very motivated to start training for our health and, of course, appearance. i think we will start training for the shamrock shuffle, which is at the end of this month. it is an 8K run, about 5 miles. it really is not that much, and if one were able to keep a steady, comfortable pace, it'd be a very good workout. HAHAHAHAHA, with this wk being a bad studying week, i havent worked out at all! so... hmmm... we will see if this actually happens... anyone wanna run too????? :)

monday was quite a pharmaceutical care day. bleh! suit schmuit. walgreens was on campus to interview people for their summer internship. i had a spot. right before my interview, i was so freakin' nervous. i just always get terribly nervous before an interview, in fear of forgetting what to say/having nothing relevant/exciting to say! bah! of course, it also didnt help when i thought my interview was at 2pm when it was really at 2:30pm. the interview went just fine; however, after talking to some people, *everyone* felt like their interview went fine too and everyone thought their interviewer (there were 6) was pretty nice and didnt ask anything too overwhelmingly hard. not that i wished anything bad for anyone... but from what it seemed, everyone did just fine! so... how will they choose? everyone is probably all equally quilified since most of us are first years and the interviewers just didnt ask a lot of questions!!!! AHHHHH!!!!
right... i shall return to do my kinetics homework and study fun biochem and energy cycles. beri beri, please.
