happy labor day

happy labor day, all, and i hope that everyone had a good weekend.

my weekend was pretty good: full of too much working at starbucks, good food, bubblies, and fun. yay!!!

i havent gone clubbing in a long time, because i think i must have aged and i just don't enjoy it as much anymore. it's always too expensive, too crowded, and kinda boring after a while. i have come to enjoy a wine bar/martini lounge or a good sports bar with good drafts so much more. mmmm, good alcohol... nevertheless, this weekend i just felt like something a lil' noisier.

anywho, i was supposed to meet up with calammy and her friends to go to white star on friday night after work. so we were in our little 3 inch heels, strolling down ontario. this dude, who's the brother of tiffany's friend, was in town for his job and wanted to go dancing with us. apparently this guy is a dance master and is the kind that enters dance competitions and what not. anywho, our problem #1, as we were trying to get in, the bouncers at white star gave the guy, kai (sp?), a hard time because of his pants. well, his pants really were fine; not dressy or actually fashionable in my opinion, but at least they were NOT stupidass tapered or casual jeans. i think the problem was really his SHOES. his shoes, though black, had white sporty stripes on the side and were more like street shoes.

OH NO! what do we do! he couldn't get in! well, eventually kai decided to call his brother to turn around to come pick him up. boo. so we went inside white star. i dont know if the other girls *realized* this BEFORE signing up for the vip list, but friday nights are salsa nights at white star. i thought that it's weird that these girls would wanna salsa, but i was like, whatever. we went in- it was very empty, as it was still early! boring! we went to another smaller room, the hiphop room, but the floor was COMPLETELY empty! what to do!

we were like, where else can we go dancing where casual dress is fine and would not be expensive!? hmmm, the only thing i could think of that an average straight asian boy would not mind going to is... the apartment! ugh, i hate that place! so we went. well, its okay, cuz i guess i was in a more dancing mood than other times. we ran into elaine and taofik from school too. how random! anand actually showed up at the apartment.. hmm, boring! the apt is stupid too, but since anand was buying drinks, why not!? woohoo! afterwards, we were gonna go to hydrate but we were having hard time getting everyone in cuz i guess anand's friend billy wasnt powerful enough yet. so we just went to the pie hole for some late night pizza instead. tasty!!

then saturday night i went with sharon and friends to sound bar for karen and other girls' bday party. i have heard that sound bar is fun but i have never been yet. well, it was okay. i had a good time, but i didnt care too much about the club. the top shelf drinks were expensive. even a stupid effen and tonic was $10!!!! there were more asians and southasians than i had expected, but overall it's a good mix of people. they were playing stupid trance before midnight, but when hiphop started, the place just got REALLY crowded. ugh!! funny, i also ran into charlene there! char is college roommate with my friend sara; and char was also friends with karen and some of those skanky snooty washboard chested asian girls in the group (they were all u of i buddies), and karen and i met through sharon, whom i met through clamsie. SMALL WORLD! i was like, charlene, what are you doing here!

after sounbar, some of us went to al's italian beef. mmmm, sooo good.

after 2 hrs of sleep, went to work at starbucks. woohoo!! zzzz. then in the evening, sharon invited me to go with her and her friends visiting from SF for some old fashioned tapas at iberico! i haven't been to iberico in SUCH a long time. still good, and DEFINITELY DEFINITELY better than stupid sangria cafe on weed st.

then today, we splurged again for lunch and dined at FOGO de CHAO! fogo!!! the one in houston opened first but i never went i was there. good thing i love meat! it's cheaper to dine for lunch there (though still pricey) but sooooo good; i loved every bite of it.

sharon's friend's bf, jake, also invited his roommate from last yr in chicago (i guess they were doing master's together"). UGH! it's not that i like to judge people. sigh. so, i think there is NOTHING wrong living with your parents in their house when one has a decent full time job. you can always think of it as a good investment plan for the future, and there are people that just love their parents very much. okay, thats all fine. just look at the noverinis' beautiful house that i wanna steal! but we have to draw a line somewhere. this friend of theirs has a good job doing stocks for some financial co in the loop and his co pays for most of his expenses.

jake: so where do you live now?
friend: chinatown.
jake: oh! it must be so convenient communiting to the loop, its so close!
me: yeah, totally, it's like what, 5, 8 min?
friend: yeah, it only takes like 7 min.
jake: do you take the L to work or something?
friend: no, my mom drops me off every morning.

christine and sharon's faces must have turned green and freaked out at this moment.

omg, so when you are almost 30, you have your mom drop you off at work every morning????? if there's not enough cars to go around or if he prefers to not drive, TAKE THE L!!! we are not part-timing at albertson's in high school anymore! or we are not having to go to band practices or football matches anymore. the last time my parents dropped me off somewhere was to the airport when i went home to visit them! WHAT THE!?

we had a bit of problem when were coming up cash for the bill; that's why i hate dining in a larger group because in MY experience, we would ALWAYS be short! boo! but whatever, the food was worth it. the several different cuts of meat were so good. mmmm...

now, i guess i will go do some studying, and perhaps some cleaning/organizing that i was SUPPOSED to do all wknd and never did. :(
