hot and sticky!!

waaah, so hot and gross this wknd!!! ugh!! everywhere i go at every waking moment, i feel sticky and gross. bah, and this warm steam room sort of weather makes me sleepy and lethargic ALL THE TIME. blah.

only if i would be not so lazy and install my window a/c unit...

friday midnight was the official release of HP 6! woohoo!! actually i have never been that crazy of a fan. i do enjoy all the books and movies, but i am not one of those that pre-order months ahead of time and know every detail or trivia about harry.

a couple of us decided to go to a release party at that the 57th street bookstore in hyde park was hosting for the lil' kids. it seemed interesting so that's why we decided to check it out! since all of us except for sara are u of c alums, it was fun to reminisce those stupid and memorable u of c experiences. HA! it was interesting cuz it was the first time that i saw my freshman year roommate, veena, for the first time since like 1998 or something. when we lived together, we got along perfectly fine, but we never became good friends or that close. she is the sort of girl that is very articulate, into current events, politics, and debates. well, i have my opinions on things, but i am not full of words until i have to be. i have always been ditzy and such too. eh oh well. it was nice seeing her though. she's prepping for the bar exam, and making arrangements to start working for some judge after she returns from india in oct. well, i guess you can do anything with that harvard law stamp. :)

we started out at dixie kitchen, one of the best places in all of chicago that i have been to for tasty (and not greasy) southern food. mmm... soo good. then we drove around to check out the new B school. it's quite a gigantic solid structure. even though i wouldn't call it pretty, its modern structure surprisingly did not obtrude the beautiful gothic architecture on campus. then we stopped by jimmy's (this dive bar near campus that we all went to) for a pitcher.

the harry potter party was quite cute. LOTS and LOTS of kids.. probably all smarties and such from the lab school. there were tables full of supplies and glitters for them to make wizard hats. coloring activities for the magical creatures. lessons on mandrakes. O.W.L.s exams for potions and other things. the hosts of the party included (probably bookstore people dressed up) dumbledore, snape, mcgonegall, lupin, and a dementor... etc. dumbledore had the perfect accent and snape had the perfect arrogance. apparently butter beer is a concoction of butterscotch and root beer-- though i think in the real HP stories they are alcoholic? the party was held at the hutchinson commons at the reynolds club. for those of you unfamiliar... its gothic high ceiling architecture with hanging pseudo candle chandeliers, dark wood trims, and portraits of all presidents was PERFECT for the setting as hogwarts. it was totally awesome!!!

saturday was like the first wknd day that i did NOT have to work for no reason since who knows when!! i always have to on wknds; if i dont work, it's cuz i have some crazy exams for study for; or i am out of town or unavailable for reasons such triathlon or something. :p wow, i didnt know what to do with myself. after *eventually* getting out of bed, i went running. DUDE, it was SOOO HOT that i almost passed out only close to mile 1. yuck.

in the evening i saw the FANTASTIC 4 with sou. it was quite entertaining. the plot and characters were very under-developed, but it's a fun movie to watch!

blah, another day, another week. can't believe summer is ending soon. who wants to take a vacation with me!!!! i haven't gone anywhere yet!!! :( bbooooooooooooooo.
