two free t-shirts in one day!?
yes, today was a 2 free t-shirts in one day sort of day.
this morning i went downtown to work at the starbucks promotions event- "the ultimate coffee break". as many of you may have heard or learned through email from me... this is a big promotional event that starbucks is doing to kick off another summer phase, with lots of samples of starbucks sandwiches, iced teas (black, passion, green), iced tea lemonades, nasty mint mocha chip and green tea frappuccinos. mmmm, tasty. it's a whole new approach to grab attention from non-coffee drinkers or amateur caffeine enthusiasts. got there at 8am to help set up for the event. the temp was climbing steadily, and being right on the river it was quite humid. stace and i got the sandwich tent. man, people are hungry vultures, even though these people in the loop in that area probably make an avg of 70 or 80K?? starbucks probably put away TONS of money for this event-- the sandwich "sample" portions were *very* generous (1/4 of a whole?), and i think we gave away at least 1000 of each type of sandwiches? we probably went through a million gallon of liquids too!
and of course, working with lots of people made me frustrated. "do you want turkey on wheat bread or turkey on pretzel roll? that's all we have at the moment..." "i want chicken salad sandwich"
!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
"can i take two of each (of the 4) for my "friend" over there?" "um, what about two. come back in line and get your friend to wait in line with you."
!!?!?!?!??!!?!?
stace and i got some mario triccoci goodie bags before the event started. mario was giving away goodie bags to everyone that stopped by their booth before things ran out. we hid these under the side tables off to the corner along with our belongings. woman came up, pointing to our mario bags, "can i have one of those plastic bags?" "um, sorry, those are OUR personal bags." "can i have them?" "um, ma'am, those bags are ours, we can't give them to you. you should've received a starbucks goodie bag on your way in." "what's that platic bag over there?" "the one in our sandwich coolers??" me opening a cooler. "that's a bag that we keep our ice in/on for the sandwiches IN THE COOLER." "oh." "sorry ma'am. have a good day, and i like your handbag."
??!?!?!?!?!!!!!
ha! well, for the most part it was pretty fun. different from the usual days. unfortunately, at some pts of the day i started to pseudo freak out, as i started seeing many boys in their silly CDW polos walking by. shoooooooooooooot, what if what's his name come by!? you mean the possibility of running into him at the gym or on lincoln ave wasnt enough, i may have to risk running into him at work!!?? luckily, no sighting.

after the event, i headed west to uic for our kappa psi fundraiser. we were volunteering at the chicago annual bastille day fun run/walk in the west loop. we were the course marshalls. blah, it was quite boring, as i felt that our jobs were "almost" completely useless. :p we also spent most of the time sitting around before the race too, as they wanted us there at 4pm, with the race starting at 7:30pm!!!
besides the shirt, we got a nice dri-fit hat. ironically, the same one that basia and i bought from the nike outlet this past wknd. well, except this one we received is red with black trim. woohoo!
