hello all. allow me to scream: AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
yes, i trust that 99% of us *HATE* moving. whether it is having to go through all our accumulated shit, packing them up, or the actual moving of heavy furniture, or the unpacking and organization later, i HATE it.
however, and very unfortunately, the delivery of my newly-purchased couch and its current state is probably WORSE than moving/move-in day!!!
as some of you may or may not know, i recently bought a couch. it is a very cute couch, and i got it at a good deal. the guys finally delivered it today. problems galore! well, so to enter my living room, you must go through a first door, then 2 steps later a second door at 90 degress. the space btwn the doors is about 2' x 2'. the guys said that it will be impossible to get the couch in from the front, as the space is not big enough to turn the couch.
so the solution is to get it in through the back door. gahhh, before they arrived i was crossing my fingers and hoping that they really could get it through the front, i pushed my bike and other things, boxes to the kitchen area. besides, i already had a pub table and other boxes pushed up against the kitchen door. ahhhh, i had to haphazardly push all these things towards the frige so the back kitchen door can even open!!! luckily they got it in through the back door, through the nasty steps.
great, now i have a couch in my kitchen!!!
the problem still remained, the couch is too wide for my tiny hall way connecting the kitchen and living room! they tried couple of ways (and i even told them to just force it through), there was no way! :( so finally, the older (polish?) beer-bellied dude told me that i will have to take the hind legs off the couch and slide it through, with a friend's help!
grrr, unfortunately, the screws for the legs are hidden behind the fabric. he showed me that i will have to remove the staples in the corner (let me tell you, MANY staples!), carefully lift the fabric to get to the screw. he ASSURED me that it is very easy, just very time consuming! he said that they could do it but it takes a while and it is very expensive. he even said that he could take any sofa apart, but he would also charge anywhere from 350 to 1000+ bucks or something.
seriously man, now the beautiful couch is in my kitchen in front of my bedroom door on one side of the island; the stools and boxes are on the other side of the island in front of the stove. i will just have to calm down to carefully loosen the fabric and remove the legs! i think it will be fine, and i am surprisingly dexterous and strong with tools when i need to be (thank god for the engineering genes). i will just need lots of time and patience. AHHH!! still, it SUCKS!!
the state of my apt is so worse than moving and move-in day! with school starting in a few days and me being busy this wknd, i hate it!
